Delicatessen

The Back to the Garden deli counter is filled with a superb range of artisan cheeses, many local.

For seventeen years Peter ran his own cheese shop in Brighton. With a lifetime's experience in the business, he knows most of the country's producers personally. He understands about the proper care and maturation of cheese, and we are thrilled to have his contacts and knowledge at our disposal.

British cheese is the surprising success story to have come out of the agricultural recession. Our cheese-makers have gained a reputation that would have been unthinkable only a few years ago, and it's great to be able to stock so many of their cheeses.

No deli is complete without its salumi, and we've tracked down an excellent range of organic cured meats. We will probably splash out on some organic belotta ham at Christmas, a fabulous delicacy, but, sadly, horribly expensive.

Emmett's of Peasenhall has often been described as the best smoke-house in the south-east. Mark Thomas, who owns and runs it, has kindly sold us one of his treasured Berkel flatbed bacon-slicers, and supplies us with bacon and ham. Though we have organic bacon and ham, for a long time Mark's bacon was the only non-organic meat at the butcher's counter.

In our war on counterfeit food we produce as many real sausage rolls, scotch eggs, pasties, pies and quiches as we can manage.

PRICES : We will shortly be publishing a guide-price list to help with your on-line ordering.  In the meantime please call us for any information you may need.
